Meet Laura

Originally from South Africa, Laura has built a diverse career that led her to become the COO of Hurricane’s Grill. With a Bachelor of Arts and Business, she began her professional journey in retail before transitioning into personal training after relocating to Australia. Following the birth of their two children, she joined her husband’s business and has since played a pivotal role in Hurricane’s Grill’s growth. Over the last 14 years, Laura’s journey has seen her evolve from the marketing department to now overseeing operations across 5 local and 4 international locations.

Passionate about empowering women

Laura founded the Women in Cafes and Restaurants group to shine a light on the incredible women working in cafes and restaurants, who often don’t receive the recognition they deserve. In addition to her leadership role, she is a sought-after international speaker, sharing her expertise on leadership, hospitality, and business growth.

Laura’s commitment to making a meaningful difference extends far beyond the workplace. As the Founder of WCR, she leads with purpose and compassion, while actively giving back through hands-on volunteer work with Ronald McDonald House. Her dedication is further reflected in the significant funds she has raised for charities including Share the Dignity, the Black Dog Institute, and Vinnies.

A respected and influential leader in the food and beverage industry, Laura is widely recognised for her vision, integrity, and impact. Through WCR and her broader industry work, she continues to inspire positive change, earning multiple local accolades that celebrate her leadership and contribution to the hospitality sector.

In 2024, Laura was honoured with Gold at the Women Changing the World Global Awards for Women in Food and Beverage. This prestigious achievement recognises her unwavering dedication to empowering others, driving progress, and championing both her industry and the causes closest to her heart.

Beyond her professional and philanthropic achievements, Laura is also a co-author of three books. In her spare time, she finds balance and inspiration in the gym or while exploring Sydney’s beautiful walking trails — a reflection of the same energy, resilience, and passion she brings to every aspect of her life.
